Why is non-symbiotic, free-living, aka azotobacterial (AZB), nitrogen fixation under-estimated in agriculture? May have to do with inadequate soil phosphorus availability. This issue has been reviewed (https://lnkd.in/edEeAwUq ; https://lnkd.in/eNqX4Zs4). Polyor SAS (www.polyor.fr) has since proposed a simple way of increasing AZB in field-crop production by applying minute amounts of P directly to soil-borne crop residues (https://lnkd.in/eHWYpXAQ). Increasing AZB in conventional cereal production is fundamental to sustainable agriculture. Yours to see.
